Evaluation Question Four

'How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?'

The HD cameras were more effective to use than digital cameras because they provided higher quality images.Using the HD cameras to film meant that we could add effects using the Adobe Premiere programme which were more visible for the audience to see.

For the production part of the work we luckily had access to Apple macs which have great programmes such as Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop which I/ we used to create the ancillary tasks and music video. By using these programmes we were able to have access to a lot of  different effects that we could put in our work. The only downside of using the Apple Mac and its programme is that we had never previously used it before and found it very hard at the beginning to use them due to a lack of experience.

Before we could create our music video we had to gain permission from the artist to use their song. In order to contact them we used Myspace as this is a popular site used by bands and artists to communicate with their target audience. Once our video was made we used sites such as ' Facebook' ,' YouTube' and ' Vimeo' to promote our final draft because these are popular sites that are used by millions of people worldwide to view videos. Using these websites allowed us to get feedback from viewers which was necessary as it helped us judge how good our video was at targeting its audience.  At certain times the teacher was not always available to help and so I thought it was a good idea to use YouTube to gain access to tutorial that users put to help people with different things that they need extra help with.

Blogger.com was another new media technology that we used to upload all of our working including pre - production and post production. As media students we thought that this was a better option of keeping our work organised but also gave the opportunity to use new technology that has become very popular in recent years.

Evaluation Question three

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

It was important that when we received feedback it was constructive because this would have enabled us to see whether our product would meet the needs of the target audience or not by allowing us to see what the strengths of the product were and where we can make improvements.

This is the initial pitch for our music video which also includes feedback from peers and teacher. Sadly we later changed our pitch and idea for music video because we thought that it would be too hard to accomplish seeing as that we did not really have a depth understand of the technology we would have to use in the short period of time that we had.

After creating the media product we needed more feedback from audience to see what they thought about it. To do this created a questionnaire with questions such as ' Our target audience for this music video was for people between the ages of 13 and over. We also considered that it would appeal to the female audience more than males. Do you agree?' and 'What improvements could you suggest to be made?'. We gave this questionnaire out to fellow media peers, media students from lower school and audiences and audience froma media event that was held at our school for not only students but also thier parents and teachers.

It was a bit unfortunate that we are unable to attain feedback Vimeo and YouTube which were sites taht we uploaded the music product on for a wider audience to see.

Evaluation Question Two

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

When creating the poster and digi-pack for the music video it was important to make sure that they reflected each other as in real life they would need to be able to work well with each other to be able to sell. With the music video we tried to create a warm feeling which will allow audience which we hoped will allow the audience to easily interpret what the song was about along with the lyrics that they here. The music video we created uses warm Autumn colours which were not exactly too bright. We decided not to use really bright or flashy colours because when these colours are used , they are used to connote happiness and joyful environment which was not what we wanted to create because the main character in our video was not at a happy stage of his life.

In the album I am trying to get across the point that the artist's is talking about how his experinces. For the digi-pack and  poster I decided to go with a black and white theme. This is because firstly is used to represent sadness/ lack of happiness which is the mood that i was trying to show the artist was feeling.  I also decided to use the colour white as a base for my ancilliary task. This is because white normally representes purity and innocence. Black and white are parameters, there is black and white (positive & negative) in everything that surrounds human eyes. These two colours owrk well with each other because I am trying to get across the point that artist is an innocent man who has had bad experiences and ideas in his life which he is talking about in his album. In the ancillary task I used the image of the artist which shows only half of his face. this can get across the point that he is insecure and still has other experiences that he is not talking about as if he is holding others stories back.

Overall I think that the main product and ancillary task work well with each other because firstly they do not use bright colours which will suggest a happy environment which is not what the song and music video is about. They also focus a lot of showing close up of the artist's face to emphasis on the emotions that they are feeling.

Evaluation Question One

9 frame analysis for other videos.

1. a shot that shows a link between lyrics and/or music and visuals
This is a shot that I have taken form the Maroon 5 song called ' wake up call'. In this specific shot the lyrics that are sung are ' Came without a warning so I had to shoot him dead' so in the video we actually see a character shoot the person who is seen in this shot.

2. a shot that typifies the way a record company would want their artist to be represented

This is a shot that I took from the Black eyed-peas song ' Imma be' . From this shot I would say that the record company would want the artists to look unique and cool. I would say from the mise en scene which includes the clothes that they are wearing.

3. a shot that illustrates how your video uses music genre

This is a shot that I have taken from The script song ' breakeven' ( the song we chose for our music video). I think this shot illustrates that the genre of the video is pop rock because it shows the use of instruments such as keyboard and drum base.

4. a shot that shows an intertextual reference

This is a shot taken from the Taylor swift song called ' Love story' . I think that it has a inter-textual reference because the video relates back to scenes from the film Romeo and Juliet. The shot I have taken can relate back to the scene in Romeo and Juliet where Juliet is standing on a balcony where she is shortly interrupted by Romeo.

5. aa shot that demonstrates your use of lighting

This is a shot taken from The script song 'Breakeven' and uses black and white colouring which I think emphasises his disheartened mood because in this video it seems likely that his partner has left him.

6. shot that demonstrates your use of camera

This is a close up shot used to emphasise a persons feature. there is a glamorous picture of a womans lips which could be used to attract the male audience or to show that the video is glamorous.

7. a shot that demonstrates your use of mise-en-scene

This shows the unusual scene of the band performing the song under a bridge. This is unusual .because an audience would not expect to see band performing under a bridge but rather a constructed location

8/9. Two shots which you feel demonstrate something which shows you have watched other music videos

I have taken shot 8 and 9 from two videos that I think have most influenced scenes from our music video. The two videos are Plain white T's ' Hey there delilah' and The Scripts ' Breakeven'

Evaluation Question One

9 Frame analysis

1. a shot that shows a link between lyrics and/or music and visuals
This is a shot taken form the video which shows the second main character. This visual has a link to the video because while this image passes through the video the artist sings 'what am i meant to do when the best part of me was always you'. to make it easier for the audience to understand who the artist is talking about we decided to show an image of her in black and white which kinds of connotate that he's having a memory from the past.

2. a shot that typifies the way a record company would want their artist to be represented

This shot shows main character seated and singing with the use of his acoustic guitar. This represents the artist as sensitive because we can see emotions on his face. The emphasis on the fact that his playing acoustic guitar is also imprnat because acoustic guitar are much softe rthan electric guitar. This can help to repsrent the artist as soft and warm hearted.

3. a shot that illustrates how your video uses music genre

The genre of our music video is 'pop rock' , one element that think illustarte the genre our music video is will  be the guitar as nowdays many pop rock artists/ bands like to use instrument and show themselve suisng them in thier video. the artist in this picture has a guitar.

4. a shot that shows an intertextual reference

This shot in our vdeo has a intertextual reference because when thsi image is shown the artist sings' Coz I got time while she got freedom' which is showing reference about how the artist is talking what i think is about how he has not moved on from being with her while she has.

5. a shot that demonstrates your use of camera

In our music video we had range of camera shots although the most popular one's that we did use were long/medium shots. this is because we emphasized on showing the miss en scene to show the different locations of the two main characters. In this shot we see a close up of the main character/artist. In this particular shot we decided to us e a close up to show the emotion of the artist.

6. a shot that demonstrates your use of lighting

most of our video contains artificial lightning that we created. In this part of the video the lightning is black and white. We only used this type of lightning to show when the artist is thinking about the past.

7. a shot that demonstrates your use of mise-en-scene

This shot doe snot only show the location that the female character is in but also shows the clothes and accessories that she has with her. In our video we focus on showing the two different location that the two character are in because the song in a way is talking about how the two character shave moved on from being with each other. As the Video shows the main character is reminiscing about the girl while the video shows the girl is moving on with her life.

8/9. Two shots which you feel demonstrate something which shows you have watched other music videos.

Previously before deciding what song we should picked we decided to pick 'The script' song to make a video for simply because it was band that we were all familiar with. Both the 8th and 9th shots that I have taken are similar shots that are included in 'The scripts' other video such as 'Breakeven' and ' The man that cant be moved'.
